194 ème anniversaire de la naissance de Victor Schoelcher ;

Pourquoi l'hommage à Schoelcher le 21 juillet ?
Victor Schoelcher est né à Paris le 5 thermidor ans XII (22 juillet 1804). Le saint du 22 est Marie Madeleine et celui du 21 juillet est Victor. Ses parent ont préféré lui donner le nom du saint du jour précédant.
En juin 1914 (J.O. de la Guadeloupe du 8 Juin) le Gouverneur Emile Merwart fixe officiellement le jour de la célébration de la "fête Schoelcher" à la Saint Victor, le 21 juillet de chaque année, et déclare que les administrations et services publics vaqueront.
Le jour fixé pour l'hommage à Schoelcher explique la confusion qui s'est installée dans les esprits jusqu'à faire inscrire la date erronée du 21 juillet sur la plaque devant le buste de Schoelcher.

Why homage to Schoelcher on July 21?
Victor Schoelcher was born in Paris on Thermidor 5 years XII
(July 22, 1804). The saint of the 22 is Marie Madeleine and that of July 21 is Victor. His/her relative preferred to give him the name of the saint of the preceding day.
In June 1914 (OJ of the Guadeloupe of June 8) the Governor Emile Merwart attaches officially the day of the celebration of the " Schoelcher festival " to the Saint Victor, July 21 of each year, and declares that the administrations and services public will be occupied. The day fixed for the homage to Schoelcher explains the confusion which settled in the spirits until making register the erroneous date of July 21 on the plate in front of the bust of
Schoelcher.


 Le Conseil Général de la Guadeloupe, fidèle à sa mission a le plaisir de vous présenter dans un musée entièrement refait une exposition ayant pour thème "la collection Schoelcher revisitée". Celle-ci permettra de comprendre le lien unissant les prises de position de Schoelcher et les objets qu'il a donné à la Guadeloupe.Ainsi chacun pourra réinterpréter en termes actuels la volonté de Schoelcher de contribuer en 1883 à créer un musée d'art pour favoriser par l'histoire de l'art l'accès à l'instruction pour tous. Le Musée Schoelcher, une fois de plus rempli son rôle qui est d'être, avec des moyens modernes, un espace de créativité et de liberté au service de notre patrimoine. Je ne saurais passer sous silence le partenariat avec des entreprise privées qui ont contribués à faire de cette exposition un temps fort de l'hommage à l'abolitionniste qu'à été toute sa vie Victor Schoelcher. Au nom de la collectivité territoriale, je les remercie. Désormais le public, pourra aussi emprunter une rampe d'accès permettant aux handicapés et aux personnes âgées d'apprécier non seulement un musée rénové mais encore sa volonté de demeurer un haut lieu de la culture guadeloupéenne.  The General Council of the Guadeloupe, faithful to his mission is pleased to entirely present to you in a museum remakes an exposure having for topic " the revisited Schoelcher collection ". Le don d'une partie de sa collection qu'il propose au Conseil Général en 1883 devait permettre aux citoyens guadeloupéens à part entière d'accéder à "l'instruction" comme moyen de promotion sociale par le biais d'un lieu d'éducation, un musée. L'exposition permanente de est un rappel de la vie et de l'oeuvre de l'abolitionniste au travers de ses dons. La collection sert de support pédagogique pour accéder à la culture avec des moyens actuels de communication, Internet, la vidéo, les CDRom.  Tous the objects that Schoelcher gave to create the museum have a relationship with the French history, Greek and Latin Antiquity, old Egypt and the voyages which it carried out poue to cultivate.
