ANGLEMONT Alexandre Privat : 1815 - 1859
Journalist and poet, famous in the Parisian literary circles at the time of Baudelaire, of which he would
have written certain " found Poems ". Author of " unknown Paris " and " Paris anecdote " " Clauserie of
the lilacs ".

AVENTURIN FOULE Elgéa : 1929
Incorporated Philosophy, finished its career of teacher as regional teaching inspector. Us delivers its
critical reflexions on a " Guadeloupe failed " in 1975.

BEBEL-GISLER Dany
Sociolinguist in charge of search at CNRS Author of " the creole language, forces suppressed " in 1981
and " the cultural Challenge guadeloupéen ". Direct in the Bwadoubout Center a school where teaching
is done in Creole.


BEBIAN Auguste : 1789 - 1866
Continued the work of the Abbot of the Sword and the Sicard Abbot at the institution of the deaf persons
and dumb man of Paris, by attaching truths principles of teaching to the institution. Of return in
Guadeloupe in 1834, because of problem of health, it directed the Mutuelle school of Low-Ground
transferred then to Point-with-Clown, rue de la Loi, today street Bébian. One can regard it as the founder
of the State education in the Guadeloupe.


BELLAIRE Angelot : 1913
Author of many poems and holder of several Literary prices. " the voice of the bells " " Of my anthology ".

BELOT Adolphe : 1829 - 1890
Author of plays of which the " will of César Girodot " who was with the repertory of the French Comedy
and author of public popular novels published successfully in Paris.


BERDIER Viviane 1954
Originating in Marie-Gallant, it obtained the price of Poetry of the Young people to the Floral Plays of the
Guadeloupe in 1970.

BLANCHE LENIS 1905
Shining professor of letters after his admission at the Higher Teacher training school, it was interested in
" the history of the Guadeloupe followed by four studies over the History of the Antilles " and " the
Guadeloupe from Tercentenary the 1635 - 1935 ". It was also interested in the problems economic and
social of the Guadeloupe, it organized the " Days of the effort guadeloupéen ".

BLANDIN-PAUVERT Arlette 1913
Author of a chronicle of the everyday life of a great family of creole white " Of the time of Mabas " 1986.

CAMPENON Vincent 1792 - 1843
Born with Sainte Rose, Man of letters elected to the French Academy in 1813. Author of " the House of
the Fields 1809 and the Prodigal son 1811 ", left of interesting Mémoires in 1824. Victor Hugo
pronounced his praise at the time of the reception of his successor to the French Academy. A
Low-Ground college bears its name.

CANDACE Gratien 1873
Born has Baillif, Instituteur Appointed of the Guadeloupe in 1912, Under-Secretary of state to the Ministry
for the Colonies in the cabinet Herriot 1932. With collaborated as a journalist in many publications and
was Directeur of " Justice ", Journal rested by George Clémenceau.

CASSE Germain 1837 - 1900
Born with Point-with-Clown, Man with the solid revolutionary temperament, excluded from all Faculties of
France for his ideas except standards, was affiliated with the First International one and purged several
years of prison, in particular with Blanqui. Melvil Blancourt contributed much to its election with the
National Assembly, like deputy of the Guadeloupe in September 1873. As of July 1873, it asks the
assimilation of the colony a French department from the political and legal point of view with a broad
administrative decentralization. Appointed of XIVème rounded sement of Paris, it was then appointed
governor of Martinique then treasurer payer of the Guadeloupe.

CHAMBERTRAND Gilbert de : 1890
Born with Point-with-Clown, author of Comedies which were a great success in Guadeloupe in particular
" the Honor of Montvoisin ". Professor de Dessin with the Carnot College, gained a gold Medal to the
National Exposure Inter colonial of Marseilles as a photographer. He published novels like " Titine
Grosbonda " or of Poetries like " Guadeloupéennes Images ".

CONDE Maryse
Born with Point-with-Clown, author of many books where it revives the past of the Guadeloupe and its
African roots through famous a saga of 2 volumes: Sejou Volume I " the Walls of the Earth ", Toma the II "
Earth in Crumbs ". It currently teaches the Literature in an American University without forgetting its
native Guadeloupe.

CORNELY Guy 1921
Author of several poems where it shows his taste of the native ground. Well-known of Guadeloupéens of
which it is an alive memory by its knowledge of simple in relation to the creole diseases (biologist of
formation).

GANOT Max 1920
Born with Low-Ground, Volunteer at 19 years, engages in Resistance during all the war. It was on the
face of the Atlantic with the old ones of the Maquis which one names the " Warriors in shoes ". It wrote
poems inspired by its life with the Maquis and its existence of student in Paris. It was classified equal
with Samy Rupaire with the Floral Plays in 1960. He was a professor of letters in Guadeloupe.

GERVILLE-REACHE Gaston 1854 - 1908
Born with Point-with-Clown, professor of philosophy in Haiti, then lawyer with the course Call of Paris,
was appointed of the Guadeloupe of 1881 to 1906. Journalist, collaborated in " Justice " newspaper
founded by Clémenceau and directed with Schoelcher the " Monitor of the Colonies and the Countries of
Protectorate ". The oldest Low-Ground College bears its name since 1933.

GIRARD Jean
Former Mayor of Large-Borough (Marie-Gallant) Author of " Traditions and Arts popular of Marie-Gallant,
plays and toys of children 1978 ".

GIRARD Rosan 1913
Former Doctor of the Hospitals of Paris. Principal Founder and Former secretary-general of the
Communist Party Guadeloupéen. Author of a book of " Reflexions of a revolutionist of Overseas " " paths
of the human emancipation 1988 ".

GODDET-LANGLOIS Jean et Denise
Authors of " the life in Guadeloupe in XVIIème century " (dictionary of the guadeloupéennes families from
1635 to 1700) in 1991.

HELENE Appolon (Dr)
Former Mayor of the Commune of Gosier Author of " Antillaistisme " Préfiguration of the world of
tomorrow.

ISSAC Alexandre 1845 - 1899
Born with Point-with-Clown, " the mothers will pronounce with happiness your name " Phrases marked
with discourses of inauguration of the Carniot College on September 1, 1883. Lawyer with the Court of
Appeal of Paris, Senator de Guadeloupe in 1885 re-elected in 1894. Large defender of the colonial
causes, Direct political of a Review which it had founded in March 1888 " freedom Coloniale " Partisan of
Dreyfus, it was also one of the founders of the league of the Humans right and of the Citizen.

JAILLE (de la)
General Charles Vicomte born with Bay-Mahault 1824 - 1892. All its life proceeded on the battle fields of
the Second Empire (Crimea, Campagne Campaign of Italy, Guerre of Mexico, Guerre of 1870,
Répression of the Commune). Was elected Senator of the Guadeloupe in 1876.

JEAN-LOUIS Jeune, dit BAGHIO'O 1874 - 1958
Lawyer and magistrate, large administrator of Schoelcher, Author of many poems " Gold Trophies ", "
Odes and Watercolours " of a " Creole Dictionary of Medicine " but also of novels: " Blazing it with blue
flowers and the white Hummingbird ", two romantic frescos with the impassioned accounts taking along
the reader to the Antilles and to Africa.

KERMADEC (Jeanne de) 1873 - 1964
Born in Jabrun. Wrote poems throughout its career of teacher with Dull-in-the Eau, was Lauréate of the
Floral Plays in 1959 and could write works moving and accessible to all.


LACOUR Auguste 1805 1869
Born with Low-Ground. During its career of magistrate it joins together the documents necessary to the
development of a " History of the Guadeloupe " in four volumes, and perhaps regarded as one of the
fathers founders of the West-Indian history, by its concern of documentation, the critical presentation of
its sources and its efforts of synthesis.

LACROIX DE HENRI 1844 1924
Born in Abymes. General having taken share with the war of Tonkin trains many officers who illustrated
themselves during the First War mondiale."L' Elégant and brave man like a blade of sword ".

LARA Oruno 1879 - 1924
Born with Point-with-Clown. Journalist and poet it created the Regional Company Guadeloupéenne,
affiliated at the Company of the Men of letters. It publishes young talents in " Guadeloupe Littéraire, in
particular Saint-John Perse of which the first poem " Desire of Creole "  parut in the review in 1908.

LANREZAC Charles-Louis-Marie 1852 - 1925
Born with Low-Ground. Professor of art of warfare in Saint-Cyr, Professor of strategies and general
military tactics at the School of War. Took part in the battle of Charleroi in 1914, saved the 5th army on
August 24, 1914 by an erudite retirement. Large Officer of the Legion of Honour in 1917.

LEGER Alexis 1887 - 1975 Dit SAINT-JONH PERSE
Born with Point-with-Clown. Diplomat and poet French, Author of many collections Praises (1911),
Anabase (1924) Exile 1942, Amers1957, which were worth to him the Nobel Prize of Literature in 1960.
 Bien that they left its native island with adolescence, without never turning over there, its poetry is
impressed richness of the Tropics.

LEGITIMUS Hégésippe 1868
Born with point-with-Clown. Friendly Socialist of Jules Guesde, deputy of the Guadeloupe in 1898, 1906
and 1910. With founded and directed in Paris the newspaper " the Socialist Antilles " " Body of the
colonial proletariat ".

LATANG Casimir 1935
Poet several times prize winner of the Floral Plays of the Guadeloupe. Author-type-setter of several
works with success.

LUBETH José 1946 - 1990
Poet and teacher, " To write are for me a way of communicating with my people, even communier.

MANICOM Jacqueline 1935
Author of " My examination of white " in 1972 and " the Seed " in 1974, where it makes us share through
his experiment of midwife of its reflexion on the birth. Militant of the movement " To choose " at the origin
of the Family planning. Prize winner of the Singer price in 1973.

MARSOLLE Edouard 1921 - 1964
Poet, prize winner of the Floral Plays of the Guadeloupe in 1950. Died tragically while carrying help with
a workman wounded by the explosion of a boiler in the distilling of which he was the owner.

MAXIMIN Daniel 1947
Poet - Essayiste - Novelist. Author of " Isolated - Sun " in 1982 " Sulphur mine " in 1987

MELVIL-BLONCOURT 1823 - 1880
Collaborate during all the Second Empire in a great number of dictionary and encyclopaedias. Took part
in the Commune and was elected appointed of the Guadeloupe in 1871. Exiled in 1874 in Belgium then
in Switzerland, it published several studies on Voltaire. It also published many studies on the
Guadeloupe, Haiti, the Hispano-American Republics, the United States.....

MIGEREL Hélène
Doctor of social sciences and Psychoanalist. Author of works on the magic practices in the Antilles. "
Migration of zombies " in 1987 " the sorcery of the others " in 1987.

MORAND Florette 1926
Born with Dull-in-the Eau. Poet of international notoriety. Was prize winner of several Contests of poetry
and rewarded twice by a price for the French Academy in 1960  pour " Song for my Savanna " and in
1967 for " Bush fires ". It currently lives in Italy.

NIGER PAUL 1815 1962 Pseudonime d'Albert BEVILLE
Appointed administrator of the Colonies in Black Africa in 1942, felt " brother " of the Africans opposed to
the Departmentalization, founded with Edourd Slipping the " Antillo-Guyanais Face for independence. Its
pseudonym reveals with him only its will to proclaim the value of its race. Died prematurely with the
Deputy Guyanais Justin Catayée in an air crash on June 22, 1962.

MORTENOL Camille 1859 - 1930
Born with Point-with-Clown. Integrated the Polytechnique school in October 1880. Achieves long and
brilliant military career. Fact countryside in Madagascar of 1884 to 1886 and 1896 to 1898. Was Chargé
by Galliéni with air defense with Paris during the First World War. (Senior officer of the greatest merit, its
station day and night to take care on Paris, provides its functions with a rare devotion and an
enlightened competence). Was named Commandeur of the Legion of Honor.

PINNEAU Gisèle

PINEL DUMANOIR 1864 - 1906
Author of 194 plays, whose most famous " Gift césar of Bazan " ensured the success of Fréderic Lemaitre
in the principal role. He was the Director of the theatre of the varieties and decorated with the Legion of
Honor.

PLUMASSEAU Eugène 1926.
Doctor of dental surgery. Holder of the control of right. Parallel to a credit political militancy, it
collaborated in several newspapers: The Spark of 1955 to 1966, the Truth of 1967 to 1972,
Endependans; He is the author of several works " My share of heritage " 1982, autobiographical account
- " Savien and Monique " 1988, a novel which, through a frame in love, reports the events which marked
the Guadeloupe of 1961 to 1978 - " Port-Louis d' Hier and of Today ", overflight of the history of its native
Commune, illustrates, if it is necessary, the interest which he carries to his soil.

POIRIE Jean-Aurèle 1795 1855

SARLAT Gaston 1853
Founder of the Newspaper Progress in 1880. Elected official appointed of 1881 to 1889, nourished
many polemic against the capitalist exploitation for the social progress.

SCHWARZ - BART Simone 1938
Author of " Rain and Wind on Télumée Miracle " and of " a dish of pig to the green bananas " 1967. This
last in collaboration with Andre Schwarz-Bart. It makes in its works a broad place with imaginary and the
West-Indian myths. Currently lives in Guadeloupe.

SORIN Charles Auguste 1766 - 1833.
Responsible for mission at Fayette in 1790. Author of poems on the captivity of Marie-Antoinette and the
death of Louis XVI.

TIROLIEN Guy 1917
Author of an initial collection " Gold Balls " where it translates his passion of the language.

TOUMSON Roger 1946
Academic, author of a thesis entitled " the Transgression of the Colors " as well as several publications
on the négro-African literatures and the comparative study of the European literatures and caribéennes "
Mythology of the Interbreeding " his last book proposes a meditation on the question of the
interbreeding. Director of the review: Portulan.

VIPART Serge (de) 1939
Collaborator of the newspaper France the Antilles Author of many poems where it evokes his passion for
